Chapter Focuses on Post-Flood Tourism Lessons
On 23 November the Chapter organized a luncheon at the JW Marriott, entitled, “Thai Floods &Tourism;: Lessons Learned & Bouncing Back.” The speakers included, Suraphon Svetasreni, TAT Governor, Dr Seksan Narkwong, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism & Sports, Martin Craigs, PATA CEO. Over 150 people attended. The deliberations emphasized the clear need for greater coordination among Thailand’s tourism leaders. The question of who should be the lead spokesperson or agency in a crisis emerged as, perhaps, the key issue. Chapter Chairperson, Bert van Walbeek, who spoke at the event, said: “The Chapter and the PATA Rapid Response Taskforce will continue their efforts to enhance crisis communication capabilities. In 2012, both will work closely with the Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Tourism Authority of Thailand so that we are all ready when the next unexpected thing happens.”
